Morag Clayton
Senior Consultant

Morag is first and foremost a pragmatic business person with a strong background in leading the strategic positioning and delivery of the major disciplines of HR to ensure competitive advantage. Morag has over 20 years HR, consulting and business experience gained with a diverse range of organisations in both the public and private sector both in Australia and in Europe. Her sector experience includes automotive, defence engineering, food manufacturing, public and not for profit.
Throughout her experience, Morag has gained a depth of knowledge specifically around the areas of strategy development, value driven people processes and systems, organisational transformation, change management leadership and employee engagement. Morag strives to ensure a real and outcome based approach coupled with an ability to quickly analyse and critically reason the issues and potential within an organisation and translate this into an achievable vision.
- Transformed the structure and outputs of major HR teams to fully align systems and processes with the business strategy and lifting the reputation of the HR function from a ‘bolt on’ to a value added integrated service
- Led the review of HR strategy for a major nuclear power station that had been decommissioned. The site needed to develop effective employee engagement and talent management strategies to ensure that it was able to maintain stability of it’s knowledge base and minimise risk to the decommission process
- Undertook a review of the HR service delivery for a major public organisation which resulted in the organisation continuing with a mix of a business partner and centralised consultancy based service model
- Drove the transformation of a brown field manufacturing site including developing and implementing a bold and ambitious HR strategy. Morag successfully managed difficult stakeholder relationships which allowed her to negotiate joint bargaining and new harmonised single status terms and conditions. This significantly improved the site’s competitive advantage and allowed the site to gain the confidence of the Board. As a result the site was awarded a multi million pound investment program and its future was secured
- Established an HR function for the first overseas subsidiary of an American owned market research data company. This required the integration of the parent company’s HR strategy, systems and processes as well as managing rapid start up recruitment processes
- Led the development of an ambitious strategic plan for a not for profit organisation that was ‘owned’ by all staff and gained full approval of the board. This required Morag to very quickly understand the history of the organisation, the sector and the opportunities for impact. In doing so she was able to meaningfully consult and collaborate with staff to ‘unlock’ their passions and capabilities while at the same time addressing the perceived ‘barriers’ to moving forward.
- Undertaken detailed reviews of the structure and cost base of organisations in line with business strategy. Worked with teams to reengineer functions, stream line processes and introduce matrix teaming to allow significant reductions in payroll costs and improved customer responsiveness.
- Led the review of extremely complex and sensitive organisational, team and individual performance issues on behalf of clients across a portfolio of sectors. This required effective diagnosis and analysis of workplace cultures, team dynamics and individual leadership styles.
Morag has an honours degree in Psychology and has a post graduate diploma in Management. She is accredited to assess and advise against the Investors in People international standard.
