Benjamin Battisson
Senior consultant

Benjamin is a senior consultant working across Nous’s Strategy & public policy and Organisational capability practices. Benjamin joined Nous with over 15 years experience working in the Australian Public Service. He has held key policy and operational roles in large departments (including Health and Ageing, Human Services and Defence) and a number of health portfolio agencies.Benjamin has a strong focus on business planning, goal setting and performance measurement. He has extensive experience in developing and implementing new policy and process initiatives, implementing new governance structures and managing change management programs.
- His previous work includes:Department of Human Services - established and managed the operation of the Access Card Consumer and Privacy Taskforce which served as a key government consultative mechanism for the multitude of stakeholder organisations and the Australian community on this large-scale technology infrastructure project.
- Led a major change management program to implement changes to the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 2006 including a strategic realignment of business units to organisational goals and a complete restructure of the organisation to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
- Established the Therapeutic Goods Administration, Office of Biologicals. This included an assessment of organisational capabilities and current work practices to meet existing demand and future increases in applications.
- Design, negotiation and implementation of the ASADA Pure Performance Program for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Team. This Program attracted significant positive media attention and praise from the World Anti-Doping Agency as the model program for countries to emulate in future.
Recent project at Nous include:
- A review of the prior financial authorisation processes completed by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. This review focussed on the strategic policy framework, organisational capability and systems supporting the processing of applications for prior financial approval.
- Completing a national round of staff engagement sessions as part of the implementation of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Corporate Services Improvement Program.
- Development of the National Clinical Assessment Framework for Children and Young People in Out-of-Home Care including coordination of stakeholder consultations with medical and consumer peak groups.
Benjamin has completed the ANZSOG Executive Master of Public Administration Program which builds on his Bachelor's degree in Science (Biochemistry) and additional tertiary qualifications in professional counselling and workplace training and assessment.
Benjamin is a keen supporter of active transport and has provided strategic advice and advocacy services to Pedal Power ACT over the past three years. His work has contributed to significant sustainable transport policy changes and, in part has resulted in a 64% rise in cycling across the ACT.
