Maryann Hazard
Senior Consultant

Maryann works across Nous’ Organisational capability and Strategy and public policy practices. Maryann combines her significant experience in architecting and delivering large scale organisational change with a commitment to giving clients implementable and achievable results in her approach to projects.

Maryann has worked for the better part of a decade in the NSW public service. She worked for many years with cabinet and legislative processes and brings a wealth of experience in the construction and implementation of governance and performance frameworks for organisations and their people, especially in response to external drivers, such as shifts in policy or statute. Maryann’s last role before joining Nous was as the Director of Organisational Reform for Communities NSW. Throughout her career Maryann has led strategic realignments, business strategy, capability enhancement projects, organisation wide diagnostic evaluations and directed large scale reform programs. Maryann is an experienced project director and has a history of delivering high value, high complexity reforms in the public sector context.

Examples of her recent work include:

  • Leading the change management and people thinking to support the organisational implementation of the reforms to child protection arising from the Keep Them Safe policy in the Department of Community Services. This included achieving the execution of a charter for reform with external stakeholders, including unions, providing expert advice on the governance and reporting approach for the program management office and supporting the Director General and members of the Executive in identifying and problem solving on issues arising throughout the project.
  • Designing and delivering cross sector workforce reform from a central agency perspective to achieve the objectives of the NSW government wages policy. Maryann was a member of the Wages Policy Taskforce and the associated steering committee for the policy and was responsible for the achievement of over $100M in workplace efficiency through reform of policy and employment arrangements.
  • The establishment and change planning for one of the thirteen super departments in NSW, Communities NSW. She led a due diligence exercise across 23 incoming entities, developed a three year change agenda with projects targeted at delivering government efficiency targets, facilitating joined up service delivery and providing communities across NSW with improved and easier accessible services. She worked closely with Board members and Chief Executives as well as ministerial stakeholders and departmental heads.
  • Providing advice to the NSW government, as a member of the Whole of Government Advisory Group on Corporate and shared services, on the design of a blueprint for the NSW public sector.

Maryann has a Bachelor of Social Science (Policy and Organisational Behaviour) from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, a Graduate Diploma (with merit) of Public Administration fom the University of Sydney and has a Certificate IV – Workplace Training and Assessment. She is an affiliate of Chartered Secretaries Australia.
