Assessment of government agencies’ impact on regional Australia
Client
The Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government, a newly formed Australian Government Department with particular responsibilities for policies and programs impacting upon regional Australia.
Situation
The challenge was to conduct a strategic level stock take of the more significant policy, program, regulatory and operational impacts of Australian Government agencies on regional Australia. Leading on from this was the provision of advice on which impacts deserved close attention by the new department and how it might most effectively engage with other Australian Government agencies in order to positively influence outcomes.
Solution
Nous Group conducted extensive senior level consultations, and data gathering with all major Australian Government departments, undertook a careful analysis of the relative significance of their regional impacts and made recommendations to the new department about its strategic objectives. A key element of the process was the Nous team’s personal familiarity with many of the senior officials who were consulted and depth of practical experience in government consideration of regional affairs.
