David Bartlett

Senior Adviser

David Bartlett

I am passionate about data-driven public policy that improves the lives of Australians.  I am convinced that a new mode of co-creation of public policy that blurs the boundaries of government agencies to include industry and community meaningfully - a kind of ‘wikigovernment’ - can and must underpin social and economic renewal across the nation.

David Bartlett was the 43rd Premier of Tasmania from 2008 until 2011.  During his Parliamentary career he also held the portfolios of Minister for Education & Skills, Minister for Innovation, Science & Technology and Attorney General.  David’s time in politics was characterised by bold reforms designed to address Tasmania’s poor educational outcomes, the roll out of high speed telecommunications, some of Australia’s most innovative social inclusion policy and the transformation of Tasmania’s traditional agribusiness sectors through the states ‘foodbowl’ strategy.

Prior to politics David had an extensive career in the IT and telecommunications sectors in roles such as Chief Information Officer and Industry Development Specialist.  Post politics David is passionate about sharing his experience in public policy particularly in the areas of education, skills for the future, innovation and social inclusion.

Interests

Since leaving politics I am passionate about weekends off with my wife Larissa and two children Hudson (8) and Matilda (6 going on 16!). Most weekends you will find us somewhere on the pristine waterways, beaches or lakes of our home state, fishing rod in one hand, the other holding the hands of Hudson or Matilda.
