Project experience

Business advice in complex regulatory environments

  • Worked with a peak body in the education and training industry to refine its policy agenda and identified steps to better influence reform
  • Provided advice to a university on a business case to establish a new campus for 5000 students
  • Worked with a major energy generator to identify strategies to compete more effectively in the electricity market
  • Developed a business case for a large budget and financial management system for a state government.

Service delivery strategies and design

  • Specified business processes for a large water utility in the United Kingdom, in compliance with a new market framework to introduce competition for services to business customers
  • Developed a standardised project management methodology for a Victorian Government department based on PRINCE2
  • Developed a service led IT strategy for a state government department
  • Reviewed business processes for a gas utility in the United Kingdom to improve the quality of penalty payment data.

Strategy optimisation

  • Conducted a review of the strategy execution capability over the last five years for an international engineering firm and provided recommendations for improvement
  • Developed an innovative best practice framework for people management, including strategic workforce planning, recruitment and selection, training and development, resource allocation and career planning
  • Developed a dynamic model for a leading Australian bank that illustrates different banker propositions and their associated effects on workforce and revenue
  • Defined a modern governance structure and supported a newly formed board in its operations, including the introduction of a balanced scorecard to focus their efforts.

Prior to Nous, Hamish held various roles in government and the private sector. His most recent role was with a state central agency where he provided business analysis for the procurement phase of a budgeting and financial management system.

Interests

Hamish has a keen interest in sports, particularly underwater hockey and cycling, although if it is a sport, he will generally follow it. He has travelled extensively throughout Europe and is now looking forward to exploring Asia.
