Ian has worked in senior management roles and works on consulting assignments across the private and public sector including insurance, media, financial services, defence, Commonwealth and state government.

Project experience

Leadership Development

  • Project director, designer and facilitator on a major mid-level manager development program with a large Australian insurance company. The program increased staff engagement to drive performance and increase market share\
  • Project director and lead facilitator for NSW Premier's Department Executive Development Program (EDP). The program developed leadership, policy and change capabilities of senior managers from across a wide range of agencies
  • Senior facilitator, designer and coach on the Australian Navy New Generation Navy program. Ian worked with the top 50 leaders in Navy to align their leadership practices with the required culture.

Culture change

  • Project director and executive facilitator with a large Australian insurance business, to improve the customer focus culture of the IMT group. The program engaged senior leaders, middle managers and all staff to develop practices and behaviours to drive higher levels of customer focus
  • Facilitator on the customer focus training program for a large Australian Government service delivery agency to support significant changes in the purpose, values and operating practices of the agency.

Strategy and team facilitation

  • Designed and facilitated a workshop with the board of a newly formed energy industry body to establish initial focus for the board in the forming of the new organisation
  • Designed and facilitated a two day workshop with the legal areas of a newly formed, large Commonwealth Government department. The work helped the leaders of the legal areas across a number of sub-agencies agree on actions for more coordinated approaches to internal service delivery
  • Facilitated the team strategy sessions for the HR team of a large Australian insurance business over a two year period. The focus of these sessions were to continually improve the team's ability to build valuable relationships with internal clients and to ensure alignment with business objectives.

  • Senior Manager Organisational Learning and Leadership, Insurance Australia Group including leadership development, talent management and organisational learning systems
  • Managing Director, Learning Innovations – established an operated this consulting business providing services in management development, learning design, team development and coaching.

Interests

Ian is endlessly fascinated by the richness and complexity of the world and particularly human beings. He is always asking why and loves to try and discover the purpose and meaning behind what’s going on. When not consulting he reads and writes a lot.
