Tackling interesting challenges, from trying to understand what motivates people to helping determine what an organisation needs to look like to meet its future challenges, keeps me motivated.
James has extensive experience helping organisations align individual and team performance with organisational objectives. He combines advanced skills in data analysis and financial modelling with extensive management of large and complex projects.
James has worked with private and public sectors in Australia. He has broad industry experience across financial services, mining, education, government and not-for-profit.
Project experience
Organisation review
- worked with a state government department to review how they engaged with the food industry
- conducted an organisation effectiveness review for a peak body and made recommendations in relation to the way the organisation managed work and performance.
Workforce planning
- worked with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations on a number of projects relating to schooling and career development
- workforce planning for a relatively new and fast growing statutory organisation. The project involved developing a workforce model and forecasting FTE demand and highlighting key strategic workforce issues.
Performance alignment
- development and roll-out of new bonus plans for a group of 400 executives in a global resources company. The new plan represented a significant cultural change, shifting the emphasis from group to individual performance.
- development of an APRA compliant remuneration policy for a bank, a project which involved working senior executives and the board
Organisational effectiveness
- review of employee absenteeism at an emergency services organisation
- review of call centre sales practices for an online classifieds provider. The project involved analysing quantitative data and conducting a series of workshops to determine opportunities for improved efficiencies.
Merger and integration experience
- workforce integration planning for a major Australian bank. Led a stream of work to develop a detailed timeframe and cost analysis for the integration of 2,000 staff of an acquired company.
- led the HR due diligence for a large Australian company across six countries throughout Asia
- worked with a large private equity firm that purchased a division of a global chemical company. The project involved the establishment of a standalone company, including the implementation of new policies and procedures.

Prior to joining Nous James worked in the management consulting practices of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Mercer.
Interests
James is an avid cycler. Having recently moved from Melbourne to Canberra, he’s swapped the Saturday mornings on Bay Road for the cross country excitement of Mount Stromlo.
