I am motivated by the example of my peers, colleagues and leaders throughout my career.
With a career spanning over twenty years in the public sector, Mike has extensive and varied experience at the senior levels of the federal and Victorian public sectors. He has worked on defence and strategic policy, capability development, intelligence, infrastructure, project management and governance, refugee determination, strategic risk management, metropolitan planning, sustainability and climate change policy. As chief of staff and senior adviser to the Minister for Defence, Mike developed a deep understanding of the political level of government decision-making.

Mike works mainly in the public sector in strategic and security policy, governance, public policy, ethics, sustainability and urban planning.
Project experience
- reviewed an urban indigenous service provider organisation and established a firm basis for improving governance and accountability and enhanced service delivery
- reviewed expansion suitability for an organisation delivering major water reform. Anticipated a major injection of funds based on the organisation’s past performance, outsourced arrangements and assessed governance and risk management.
- developed and delivered an ethics and ethical culture building course for high performing school principals
- developed and delivered ethics training courses in the public sector.
- reviewed scope of the problem of violence perpetrated by young women and analyzed the scope and effect of existing referral support services.
- updated and delivered the premier policy development training course for Victorian public servants
- designed and delivered a public sector training course for federal and state public service organisation in development and implementation of public policy, briefing ministers and writing cabinet submissions.

Past employment
Mike has undertaken the roles as deputy secretary, strategy and programs and executive director, metropolitan development in the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE). He has held numerous positions within the Department of Defence, including head of defence infrastructure, head of East Timor policy unit and assistant secretary of capability development and regional policy and programs. He has also worked as CEO of the Victorian Growth Areas Authority. Mike was seconded as chief of staff and senior adviser to successive ministers for Defence.
Interests
Mike continues to be passionate about the public sector and has an abiding interest in complex and strategic public policy making and implementation. He is a strong advocate of sound ethical cultures as the best way to strengthen public service outcomes for the community.
