Community partnership builds opportunities for youth in Western Cape York

Rio Tinto Alcan engaged Nous to facilitate the Weipa and Western Cape College Forum. The Forum was established in 2005 to create greater work opportunities while addressing future skills shortages in the mine and the development of school-to-work pathways for young people on Western Cape York.

The focus is on quality learning outcomes for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, with particular individualised support for local Indigenous students where appropriate. Nous facilitates the quarterly meetings, prepares the accountability framework following each meeting, monitors implementation of agreed actions between meetings and prepares a progress report for each quarterly meeting.

The Forum has been widely recognised across Australia as an exemplary community partnership program, and continues to provide opportunities for young people across the Western Cape York region.
