Cost-savings identified and delivered through shared services arrangements
Nous was engaged to review the IT operations of two government departments that wished to establish a shared services model for IT services. Their objective was to ensure cost effective use of resources, strong performance and improved efficiency in IT service delivery.
The project required analysis of the true cost of IT services required to meet priority needs, a comparison of this cost with external benchmarks and the identification of potential savings areas. Nous defined a transparent, fair and rational funding arrangement for IT services to be used by both departments to exploit synergies of shared services arrangements and provide price signals to effectively address the drivers of IT costs. Following successful completion of the funding review, Nous was again engaged to design the IT shared service model and a detailed two year implementation plan. Nous designed a supporting governance model with distinct roles for each departmental CIO and a shared CTO to manage the IT shared services unit.
The model was approved by the departmental ICT Committee for adoption.
