Greenhouse gas modelling for the Victorian Transport Plan

The Department of Transport engaged Nous to explore the greenhouse gas abatement potential of the initiatives outlined in the Victorian Transport Plan.

Through this analysis, Nous updated the Princeton wedges model that it had developed for a broader study undertaken for the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Nous used this model to show the 'reference case' greenhouse gas emissions from Victoria's transport sector out to 2036, along with the reduction in emissions that each initiative would have against this reference case. This model built on previous analyses by incorporating the change in emissions due to changing fuel prices and an emissions trading scheme and explored the interaction between these factors and the effects of the government initiatives.

The resulting model allowed the department to analyse the predicted abatement effects of various transport initiatives.
