Highly customised corporate performance report and implementation plan for the CEO and Board of a major Australian port operator

A major Australian port operator engaged Nous to develop a highly customised corporate performance report for the CEO and Board. Distinct from the organisation's existing detailed monthly reports, the purpose of this report was to provide a short and sharp overview of operational performance and progress towards strategic goals.

Based on the balanced scorecard approach, the report covered measures in four key areas: port operations; financials; stakeholders and customers; and people, culture and internal improvement. Nous worked with stakeholders to identify and prioritise the core set of KPIs, which included several new measures. We then created a prototype report, employing highly visual data presentation techniques (including graphs, maps, tables and traffic light indicators) to help the reader quickly distil the key messages and trends regarding performance. A major challenge for the organisation was how monthly report generation would be resourced. In response, Nous mapped out a high level process for data collection, analysis and collation, and recommended a number of areas where the report could be automated, or streamlined and integrated with existing corporate reporting processes.

The prototype report was very well received by the CEO and recommended for implementation.
