Infrastructure scenario and strategic planning prepares utility for future

A major transmission network owner and operator engaged Nous to assist with infrastructure scenario and strategic planning to ensure their multi-billion dollar assets were well planned and managed. The company faced many possible changes over the next 20 years and wanted to ensure it thought hard about how best to prepare for a range of eventualities.

Nous worked with groups of executive managers to review different possible futures and explore how each business could position itself to thrive in the long term. We facilitated executive scenario planning workshops, helping the businesses to think hard about potential future developments, and designed and facilitated strategic planning workshops with the board and executive.

These combined the ideas from the scenario planning and other key strategy drivers into a medium to long term strategic plan for the company. The scenarios played a central role in understanding strategic challenges, with buy-in from the executive and board ensuring that the results were fed directly into corporate strategy. The planning work was a central component of the successful succession of a new CEO, who used the executive planning meeting to confirm some existing directions and identify key new ones.
