Leadership capability development in the NSW public sector

The NSW Premier's Department engaged Nous to build a stronger executive leadership capability to ensure the delivery of relevant and quality public services in NSW. Nous designed a highly successful cross-agency leadership and policy development program for senior executives in the NSW public service.

We delivered the program for seven years from 2002 to 2009. Each program ran over 10 months, including a 360 feedback process with a one-to-one debrief with a Nous coach, three x 3 day modules, peer partner meetings, cross-agency workplace projects and a graduation day where participants presented the results of their project to executives from the NSW public service. The three modules covered leadership – from the inside out, leading policy formulation and leading change in the public sector.

On average, 40 participants graduated annually with improved skills to assume executive leadership roles in their various NSW Government organisations. The participants' cross-agency workplace projects provided a positive return to the NSW public sector by tackling current issues facing government.
