Leadership program promotes Defence-wide perspective and enhanced effectiveness

The Department of Defence (DOD) sought to enhance the capacity of new Senior Executive, Band 1 members of the Defence Leadership Group to think and act from a Defence-wide perspective.

Nous was engaged to develop a Senior Executive Leadership program - Capstone. Capstone was designed to test and stretch participants' thinking against the political context, government agenda, Defence capability and associated cultural and people related issues. Participants were drawn from all three military services and the APS in order to develop strong cross service relationships and explore possibilities and opportunities to apply their learning to influential leadership.

Capstone has produced outstanding results with measurable improvement in participants' leadership effectiveness. Participants have championed positive cultural change and have embraced and applied non traditional approaches to the resolution of previously intractable challenges. This change has, in some instances, directly contributed to significant savings for the Department.
