Review of self managed disability services model to shape reform

Ageing Disability and Home Care in the Department of Human Services NSW (ADHC) engaged Nous to conduct a review of the introduction of a self managed model (SMM) in two established day programs; Life Choices and Active Ageing.

The review of the self managed model used a bespoke evaluation to emphasise participant perspectives and experiences. It received responses from 42% of the initial SMM participants conducted through and questionnaire and face to face interviews with 20 participants making it significant as a direct investigation of user satisfaction. Nous also interviewed ADHC officers, service providers and National Disability Services (NDS).

The review contributed to ADHC's practical appreciation of the implications of flexible modes of disability service that assists preparation for the introduction of individualised support in NSW. The insights offered by participants helped determine factors that contribute to improved service outcomes and formed the basis for program modifications that were introduced prior to program expansion.
